How do I find the hiring manager's email address?

Read the job advert to the very end first. When an employer prints an address in the advert, almost nobody uses it, because almost everybody clicks Apply. Of 9 emails sent to an address printed in the advert, 6 got a reply, which is 67% and the best of any source. Next is the company's own website: /contact, /careers, /about, /team. That found 77 addresses and replied at 21%. Never guess a pattern like firstname.lastname@company.com. If no real address can be found, send nothing.

In order, best odds first

1. The advert itself

Read it to the last line. A lot of adverts, especially from smaller firms and agencies, print a contact address at the bottom under the salary and the reference number. Almost nobody uses it, because almost everybody clicks Apply.

Where it came fromSentRepliedRate
The advert itself9667%
The company's website771621%

Nine emails is a small sample and 67% will not hold at scale. The reason it is first anyway is that when an employer prints an address, they are telling you how they want to be contacted.

2. The company's own website

/contact, /careers, /about, /team, /jobs. A firm of thirty people often has the whole team on one page with addresses. This is where most real addresses come from.

3. A hiring inbox, if no name is going

careers@, hr@ and recruitment@ are read by somebody whose job is to read them. info@ is read by nobody in particular and replied at 10%.

Do not guess the pattern

Most advice on this question tells you to work out whether the company uses firstname.lastname@ or flastname@, apply it to the hiring manager's name, and run it through a verifier. The companies giving that advice sell the verifier.

Three reasons not to:

If no real address can be found, send nothing. Out of the listings processed for the numbers on this site, 516 ended that way, and that is a correct outcome rather than a failure.

Doing it without the reading

Paste the advert into the free finder. It pulls any address out of the advert text, then looks at the company's own site, ranks what it finds by the table above, and tells you which tier each one is. No account, nothing to install, and it will tell you when there is nothing real to find.

Where these numbers come from

86 cold emails to real UK employers over four weeks, sent by one person looking for work, logged as they went. 22 replies. The full method and every table is in the playbook, free, no account.

They are engineering and technician roles in Scotland, so a different trade may behave differently. Where a row is thin it says so on the row.

Since then: 171 applications across 137 employers, 32 replies, 19%. Live, and updated after every run.
